Stache - General FAQ

What is Stache?

Stache is a marketplace for sharing free space. Whether you have extra space in your apartment, or need a place to store some extra things, check out Stache.

HOSTING

How am I paid?

Payment is made via PayPal (or checks if requested). Payments occur in 28-day billing periods, starting on the first day of the booking. Hosts are paid at the end of each period. For periods less than 28 days — shorter bookings or bookings with partial periods at the end (e.g., a 35-day booking will be broken into a 28-day initial period and a subsequent 7-day partial period) — payment occurs at the conclusion of the booking.

What space can be rented?

You can rent out any type of extra space you have, including, but not limited to, closets, basements, spare bathrooms, living rooms, garages, space under lofted beds or dining room tables, and parking spaces. So long as there is space to rent out, you can list it.

How much should I charge?

Our service automatically suggests a price per floor square foot based upon prevailing market prices in your area. We check regularly to make sure your prices beat the lowest available prices from competitors by 25-33%.

What are my responsibilities?

When a renter requests your space, you’ll have 72 hours to respond before the request expires. Once you accept a request, we ask that you make yourself available on both the start and end date of the rental period. You can communicate with your renter via our messaging platform on the website or in the app. Once the rental period begins, we ask that you honor the renter’s request to access his/her goods when possible and within reason. Should a renter wish to access goods, we ask you to make access available within 48 hours of their request. Once the renter's items are in your possession, California Bailment law states that you, the host, have the responsibility to keep the items in your possession safe and secure.

What if the renter requests goods early?

The renter can cancel a rental period before the original end date. In this case, the renter will still have to pay you for the entire month in which they end the booking.

What happens to abandoned property?

In the event that a renter's payment method ceases to work, Stache will make multiple attempts to contact the renter and do our best to troubleshoot the issue. Should all proper channels of contact fail, after 28 days of the first delinquent payment, their property will be considered abandoned, and will be removed by Stache employees.

RENTING

Are items insured?

We provide a $50,000 Stache guarantee on transactions. We also offer up to $10,000 in property protection in the event of any theft or misuse on the part of the host. Please note that to collect on this coverage you must catalog your items and provide the host a copy. We advise you purchase or confirm your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance to further ensure your property is fully covered. These policies often cover your property stored outside of your home in event of theft of damage. It is your responsibility to take inventory of items you put into storage. This information is necessary when making a claim for damage or theft.

What can I Stache?

As long as the host is OK with it, you can store pretty much anything EXCEPT:

For your protection, we also do not recommend storing items with a collective value over $10,000 (excluding automobiles) or anything of significant sentimental or monetary value.

What happens after I make a Stache request?

After you make a request, the host has 72 hours to respond. If your request is accepted, we will process your payment and email you a receipt with additional details about the listing. We encourage you to contact your host to determine logistical specifics regarding the drop off and placement of your items.

How long can I rent a Stache?

Stache has a 1 week minimum and no maximum.

How do I pay?

Payment is handled via credit/debit card through our Stripe-integrated payment system.

What do I do if a host wants Cash/Check payment?

A host should never ask for direct payment, and any direct payment violates our Terms of Services. Acting outside the platform removes all liabilities from Stache and removes protections in place regarding the safety of your goods.
